Away from the White House, Rahm Emanuel is bucking unions.
Following examples from people like Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin (R), former White House chief of staff, and now mayor of Chicago, Emanuel is getting teachers to buck their unions. And parents of Chicago area schools are in support of his plans to get the children of his city more education.
In a curious move that seems to be a 180 degree tact from his former boss’s pro-union stance, Mayor Emanuel is asking teachers to go against some of the contract provisions to work longer hours – and get bonuses for doing so – in order to increase the level of education in Chicago to levels of other large cities like Houston, Los Angeles and New York City.
