Meet the New Boss(es): NLRB Nominees Clear Senate

Well, it’s official: We finally have a fully staffed National Labor Relations Board.

On July 30 the Senate, as part of a deal worked out weeks ago, confirmed the entire slate of the Obama Administration’s nominees to the NLRB. In return, the Persistent withdrew the two controversial “recess” appointments that were causing the Courts so much constitutional heartburn.

Empire of Rust: How the UAW Killed Detroit

On Detroit’s east side, the abandoned Packard automaking facility looms tomb-like over 40 acres of once-prime real estate, its hollow buildings ringed with mounds of glass and littered with broken beams and broken dreams. The complex once housed busy workers assembling the cars that connected America, and it once hummed and hissed with the sounds of muscle meeting machinery.

Union Invasion: UAW Targets Tennessee

One hundred and fifty years ago an invading Union army was halted at Chattanooga by the Confederate Army of Tennessee under General Braxton Bragg. The Battle of Chickamauga was one of the bloodiest days of the entire Civil War, and a resounding defeat for the Northern forces. Today Southeastern Tennessee faces invasion from another union— an actual labor union, the United Auto Workers (UAW). The UAW has its heart set on organizing Chattanooga’s Volkswagen plant, which employs several thousand and supports thousands more throughout the Southeast.

Union Buyer Remorse on Obamacare?

Be careful what you wish for. That’s the lesson Big Labor is learning now that Obamacare is unfolding in all its mighty messiness. Labor leaders, who turned out their troops in droves in support of the President’s signature health care law, are now realizing that – shock! – it will actually increase premiums for millions of their members, despite Obama’s repeated assurances to the contrary.

No Duh: IRS Union Loves Obama

In other news, mice like cheese.

“NTEU supported the re-election of President Obama as being in the best interests…of the dedicated men and women of the federal workforce. NTEU is also pleased that so many of our candidates for Senate seats and our staunchest supporters in the House won their races.”

-Colleen Kelley, President, National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU)

IRS-Gate: Time to End Government Unions

What did the President know, and when did he know it? That is the question many are asking in the wake of the unfolding scandal at the I.R.S. Certainly if Barack Obama directed – or even knew about – the agency’s harassment of conservative donors and Tea Party groups, his presidency would be in deep jeopardy, and rightly so.

Chaos at the NLRB

Yes, a second court has now ruled that President Obama’s “recess” appointments to the National Labor Relations Board were unconstitutional. The 2-1 decision from the Third Circuit Court of Appeals that came down on Thursday confirmed what the D.C. Circuit Court had already found – that the Obama Administration failed to secure the constitutionally-mandated “consent’ from the Senate before filling vacant NLRB seats.
