A union that represents more than 6,000 janitors and security officers in the Twin Cities will hold a strike authorization vote on Saturday, as the workers have been without a contract since Dec. 31.
Members of the Service Employees International Union Local 26 will vote Saturday morning at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Affirmative votes by the janitors and security officers — who have separate contracts — would give their bargaining committees the right to call a strike.
The bargaining committees have been negotiating with employers covered by the contracts for months without progress, they say, and both committees have recommended a “yes” vote from members.
